Parliamentary Commissioner For Standards (No. 2)
EDM number 827 in 2001-02, proposed by Peter Bottomley on 06/02/2002.
That this House notes with approval the nomination of Philip Mawer as Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, expecting that he, like his predecessors Elizabeth Filkin and Sir Gordon Downey has the standing, ability and personal authority for the role; and that he will bring to it, as they did, the independence, discretion and strength of character required to ensure that the system of Parliamentary self-regulation works and is seen to work effectively; and hopes that he will escape the mistakes, misunderstanding and the appearance of malice which the public suspect has marred some aspects of self-regulation.
This motion has been signed by a total of 15 MPs.
