Mobile Phone Security

EDM number 734 in 2001-02, proposed by Howard Stoate on 28/01/2002.

That this House notes with concern that mobile phone robberies now account for over a quarter of all robberies, compared to eight per cent just three years ago; welcomes new police initiatives to target hotspot areas and persistent offenders and new government crime prevention and education programmes; and urges United Kingdom mobile phone operators and handset manufacturers to give improved phone security the same priority and resources as the motor industry has given to improving car security in the last decade, which has led to a drop of over 40 per cent in the level of recorded car theft since 1992.

This motion has been signed by a total of 56 MPs.
