Location Of The Statue Of Lady Thatcher
EDM number 708 in 2001-02, proposed by Paul Farrelly on 22/01/2002.
That this House calls upon the Works of Art Committee, when it comes to consider whether to allow the 8ft high, two ton statue of Lady Thatcher to be lent to Arizona, to decide that not only would it be a perfect place for the statue to reside in the short term, but that it would also make a very appropriate permanent home; and further urges this decision to export the statue in the light of the wholly inappropriate proposal to place the piece, which the National Portrait Gallery has already rejected as 'too domineering', in the Members' lobby alongside such figures as Clement Atlee and Lloyd George, considering Lady Thatcher's attempts to dismantle this country's public services and our welfare state.
