Industrial Dispute At The Catapillar Plant
EDM number 701 in 2001-02, proposed by John Cummings on 22/01/2002.
That this House notes with concern the present industrial dispute at the Caterpillar Plant in Peterlee, a town in the constituency of the honourable Member for Easington; compliments the efforts of the AEEU to have the issue referred to ACAS; expresses surprise and dismay at management's reluctance to agree reference to ACAS; further notes that this is the first time in the 29 year history of the plant that a weekly one day strike has been declared, thus marring a superb record of harmonious progressive industrial relations; and calls upon management to join with the AEEU in a spirit of true conciliation for the well-being of the company, the area and the country and refer this dispute to ACAS.
