Testimonial Match Of Mr Niall Quinn

EDM number 694 in 2001-02, proposed by Siobhain McDonagh on 21/01/2002.

That this House applauds the decision of the footballer Niall Quinn, Sunderland striker and Republic of Ireland international, to donate all proceeds from his testimonial match to children's hospitals in Sunderland and Dublin; supports his intention to encourage fellow players in the testimonial match, to be played between Sunderland and the Republic of Ireland at the Stadium of Light, to sponsor individual children in developing countries and to take a personal interest in their future; notes that Niall Quinn's charitable actions are likely to raise over one million pounds which will benefit children on both sides of the Irish Sea; and hopes that other footballers and individuals in jobs attracting significant bonuses will be inspired to follow his hugely generous example.

This motion has been signed by a total of 52 MPs.
