Action On Malnutrition In The UK
EDM number 666 in 2001-02, proposed by Howard Stoate on 16/01/2002.
That this House notes that in the United Kingdom, one in seven people aged 65 and over are malnourished or at serious risk of malnutrition, recognises that malnutrition often goes undetected throughout the NHS; further notes that all patients should have access to appropriate nutritional support; further recognises health professionals need to work together to make detection and management of malnutrition an integral part of clinical practice and that the Government's stated intent of improving people's health can be enhanced through tackling malnutrition; and calls on the Government to make nutritional screening and intervention part of routine NHS care and supports the initiatives of the Malnutrition Advisory Group towards reducing the levels of undernutrition in the United Kingdom.
