Commemorative Stamps For The Island Of St Helena

That this House notes that the 500th anniversary of the discovery of the Island of St Helena is 21st May 2002; recognises the loyalty of the Island's residents to the British Crown over the centuries; acknowledges the importance of the Island to the United Kingdom in the days of the Empire; believes that the United Kingdom has a continuing obligation to the Island and its residents; looks forward to the restoration of full British citizenship by the time of the 500th anniversary celebrations; and calls on the Royal Mail to introduce commemorative stamps to mark the occasion.
