Archbishop Of Canterbury
EDM number 637 in 2001-02, proposed by Laurence Robertson on 10/01/2002.
That this House, while regretting the announcement of the retirement of Dr George Carey as Archbishop of Canterbury, pays tribute to the work he has carried out in that role over 11 years; notes in particular his achievements in holding the Church together during times of great difficulty, challenge and controversy; admires the compassionate way in which he has carried out his work; recognises the contribution made by his wife, Eileen, to his Ministry but also to other good causes during this period; and wishes both Dr and Mrs Carey, long, happy and active lives following his retirement.
