War Against Terrorism
EDM number 612 in 2001-02, proposed by Alan Simpson on 18/12/2001.
That this House strongly believes that an inability to find Osama bin Laden must not be used as a pretext to extend the war against Afghanistan into other countries; knows that military action against Iraq, Somalia, Sudan or any of the 60 countries on America's target list, would see the international coalition against terrorism torn apart in the pursuit of vengence rather than justice; recognises that a UN-led agenda of development, democracy and social justice offers the only long-term prospect of international stability; and calls upon the United Kingdom Government to lead this initiative within the international community.
