Free Travel For Pensioners
EDM number 604 in 2001-02, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 18/12/2001.
That this House notes that a large proportion of pensioners are dependant on public transport; realises that many pensioners are on low incomes and transport costs amount to a significant amount of their spending, even though they are entitled to free passes for concessionary travel; congratulates the Government on extra financial support for pensioners through the increase in the basic state pension, the ú200 winter fuel payment, the minimum income guarantee, free television licences for those aged 75 and over and free eye tests; and calls on the Government to now further help pensioners by introducing passes for pensioners to travel free on public transport within the UK.
