Justice And Leeds United Footballers

EDM number 594 in 2001-02, proposed by Gerald Kaufman on 17/12/2001.

That this House expresses its disgust at the travesty of justice enacted at Hull Crown Court; calls on the Attorney-General to conduct an inquiry into why the Crown Prosecution Service, which the Director of Public Prosecutions has admitted is institutionally racist, did not prosecute for racial attack the gang of white men who carried out a vicious attack on an Asian youth; further calls on the Attorney-General to consider whether Lee Bowyer, labelled by Mr Justice Henriques as a multiple liar, should be prosecuted for perjury; condemns Leeds United Football Club for the trivial sanctions, amounting to a slap on the wrist, it is imposing on the convicted criminal Woodgate and the branded liar Bowyer; calls on the Football Association in no circumstances to include Woodgate in an England team; and takes note of the message sent out to all the boys and young men who regard leading footballers as role models, namely that, if you are rich and famous, you can be a drunken, lying, violent lout who is able to get away with near-murder.

This motion has been signed by a total of 32 MPs.
