Government Alcohol Strategy
EDM number 568 in 2001-02, proposed by Kelvin Hopkins on 12/12/2001.
That this House is alarmed at the increase in dangerous levels of alcohol consumption in the United Kingdom; notes with deep concern the report by Professor Donaldson, the Chief Medical Officer, that cirrhosis of the liver, associated with excessive alcohol consumption, now kills more men than Parkinson's disease and more women than cervical cancer; believes that action to reduce harmful drinking is a matter of great urgency; and calls upon the government to publish and implement its long promised alcohol strategy as soon as possible.
This motion has been signed by a total of 73 MPs.
