Funding For Sport England
EDM number 540 in 2001-02, proposed by Bob Russell on 10/12/2001.
That this House recognises the role of Sport England in developing sport at every level; believes that sport can help combat social exclusion as well as improve the health of the nation, with the beneficial consequences of less demand on overstretched public services; notes, however, that lottery funding for Sport England is projected to fall to ú185 million next year from the ú250 million it received in each of the lottery's first three years; and calls on the Government to ensure that Sport England has sufficient funds to at least maintain its current level of investment in grassroots sports provision.
