Deafness And Disability Living Allowance
EDM number 526 in 2001-02, proposed by Angus Robertson on 05/12/2001.
That this House recognises the difficulties faced by deaf people when applying for disability living allowance; notes that in many instances appropriate communication assistance is not provided and that a disproportionately large number of deaf applicants only receive their disability living allowance entitlement on appeal; and calls on the Government to carry out further research into the needs of deaf disability living allowance claimants and subsequently to tailor the system accordingly to ensure that equitable assessment occurs.
