A9 Road Safety And Upgrade

EDM number 487 in 2001-02, proposed by Pete Wishart on 28/11/2001.

That this House notes the appalling number of deaths and accidents on the A9 between Perth and Inverness; notes the dangerous design of the road that varies awkwardly between dual carriageway and two way traffic, with a number of dangerous junctions that involve crossing fast flowing dual carriageway; notes that the A9 is the main arterial route to the Highlands of Scotland and is frequently used by foreign tourists who often have difficulties in understanding the layout of the road and are often distracted by the scenery of this area; and calls for the Scottish Executive to make the whole of the A9 dual carriageway and put in place, as a first step, a grade separated junction at Ballinluig where three generations of an Israeli family were killed recently.

This motion has been signed by a total of 6 MPs.
