Mr Jack Mcconnell And Financial Independence For The Scottish Parliament

EDM number 465 in 2001-02, proposed by Alex Salmond on 22/11/2001.

That this House notes that the Labour leader in Scotland, Mr Jack McConnell, was a prominent member of the Scottish Labour action Group in the late 1980s and early 1990s which supported a Scottish Parliament controlling all taxes that are raised in Scotland, including a share of oil revenues; expresses disappointment that Mr McConnell has failed to maintain that support for financial independence for the Scots Parliament now; and observes that while polls show over two-thirds of Scots support financial independence for their Parliament, Mr McConnell has abandoned his previous position in favour of letting the Westminster Government cut Scotland's share of public spending.

This motion has been signed by a total of 7 MPs.
