Improving Workplace Safety

EDM number 441 in 2001-02, proposed by Michael Clapham on 19/11/2001.

That this House is alarmed that last year 291 people were killed in the workplace, a massive 32 per cent. increase on the previous year; is concerned that in addition there were probably as many as 700 workers killed in work-related traffic incidents and over the same period there were 27,935 reported serious injuries; and believes it is now time for the Government to take action that will improve workplace safety, increase law enforcement and promote corporate accountability.
