East London Line Extensions

EDM number 434 in 2001-02, proposed by Martin Linton on 16/11/2001.

That this House welcomes the progress that can now be made towards establishing metro-standard services to destinations such as Wimbledon and Croydon following the Secretary of State for Transport's approval for London Underground's East London Line southern extensions; backs the case for a third extension of the East London Line along the South London Line to Clapham Junction to form part of an orbital route around London; welcomes the ú39 million from the Strategic Rail Authority for initial construction work before a concessionaire can be appointed, but notes that there has been no agreement yet by Railtrack to carry out essential upgrade work; and fearing that the company's current position could cause further delay, hopes the Government will take steps to ensure the East London Line extensions can be completed on schedule by 2006.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs.
