Dvt Awareness And Luton Airport
EDM number 430 in 2001-02, proposed by John P Smith on 15/11/2001.
That this House roundly condemns the decision by Luton Airport to cancel the Deep Vein Thrombosis Awareness Day organised by the campaign group VARDA with just six days to go; regrets the waste of months of hard work by the relatives, friends and supporters of deep vein thrombosis victims; acknowledges that the purpose of this event was simply to raise awareness, educate and advise air travellers on the dangers of blood clotting and precautions that can be taken to avoid them; agrees that there is nothing to be gained by the airport from burying its head in the sand and hoping that this important public health issue will go away; and recognises that if public confidence it to be restored in air travel the health and comfort of passengers will have to be addressed by the industry as well as their safety and security.
