Balfour Beatty And The Ilisu Dam

EDM number 411 in 2001-02, proposed by Kevin McNamara on 13/11/2001.

That this House welcomes the withdrawal of Balfour Beatty and Impregilo from the Ilisu Dam project in the Kurdish region of south east Turkey following a thorough and extensive evaluation of the commercial, environmental and social issues inherent in the project; notes that the four conditions imposed by the UK Government for export credit support have yet to be met; calls on the UK Government, following the Balfour Beatty decision, to withdraw its support for the project; and further calls on the Government to introduce mandatory human rights, environment and development standards for future UK export credits and investment guarantees.

This motion has been signed by a total of 60 MPs.
