That this House regrets the rejection by the Turkish Cypriot leadership of the UN Secretary-General's invitation to the leaders of the two communities of Cyprus to New York on 12th September; welcomes the September peace project initiatives taken by young Greek and Turkish Cypriots to allow friends who used to live together to remeet in Pyla and Pergamos Park, and their use of the Internet to break down the physical barriers to their meeting; is concerned at the intimidation by the Denktash regime and the UHH of Turkish Cypriots who back a solution and Cyprus' EU entry and meet with Greek Cypriots, and attempts to stop Turkish Cypriots holding Republic of Cyprus passports; notes that Turkish Cypriot teachers wishing to attend the London seminar of the Centre for Democracy and Reconciliation on history teaching were refused permits to leave; supports the UN efforts to achieve a comprehensive settlement in Cyprus, based on UK resolutions, a single sovereignty, international personality and a single citizenship, with its independence and territorial integrity safeguarded, and comprising two politically equal communities in a bicommunal and bizonal federation; and urges Her Majesty's Government, at this time of international tension, in co-operation with the UN, EU and United States, to support those Cypriots who want to work together to find a solution which will end the division of Cyprus, using all reasonable means to persuade the Government of Turkey that this is also in the interests of the Turkish people.
