New 888 Service

EDM number 361 in 2001-02, proposed by Nick Palmer on 06/11/2001.

That this House notes that 999 call response is slowed by the volume of non-urgent calls, including minor requests for information; believes that this is partly because 999 is the only access number universally known to the public; and proposes the establishment of a new 888 service for non-urgent problem reports and requests for information and contact numbers for public services, and a major public information campaign to limit the use of 999 to urgent requests for help.

This motion has been signed by a total of 27 MPs.
