The Vigil Hut

EDM number 331 in 2001-02, proposed by Mark Lazarowicz on 31/10/2001.

That this House expresses regret that the National Museums of Scotland has declined to exhibit the Vigil Hut which was formerly situated outside the former Royal High School building; notes that the hut was continuously occupied for more than four years by a vigil in support of the campaign for a Scottish Parliament; considers that the Vigil Hut was an important symbol of that campaign for democracy for Scotland; accordingly calls upon the National Museums of Scotland to reconsider its decision not to exhibit the Vigil Hut in its section showing items of contemporary Scottish history; and believes that, if the National Museums will not reconsider its decision, the hut should nevertheless be found a place in a suitable public venue in Edinburgh, such as the new Scottish Parliament building.
