Benign Prostate Disease
EDM number 297 in 2001-02, proposed by Howard Stoate on 23/10/2001.
That this House welcomes the publication of 'Out of the Water Closet - it's time to tackle Benign Prostate Disease' by the Men's Health Forum for the All Party Group on Men's Health; notes with concern the poor level of public awareness of prostatitis and benign prostatic hyperplasia, despite their impact on the quality of life of millions of men; notes that only 12 per cent. of men understand the role of the prostate, that there is widespread ignorance of the common symptoms of prostatic disease and there are doubt over diagnosis and treatment outcomes; and calls for the Government and health providers to support the report's recommendations, namely for a campaign to raise public awareness of benign prostatic disease and to encourage men with symptons to seek help and for extra support to be given to health services to enable them to meet the needs of men with these conditions more effectively.
