That this House congratulates the British Psychological Society in this, its centenary year, on its commitment to serve the public interest by promoting the advancement and diffusion of knowledge of psychology; recognises the importance of the Society's role in setting and maintaining the highest standards of professional practice; welcomes the assistance that the Society's members can give to Parliament and the Society's willingness to make available psychological expertise on many subjects of interest to Right honourable and honourable Members; notes that there is at present no statutory registration of psychologists; further notes that the public deserves to be protected from unqualified and unethical practioners of psychology; and looks forward to the society's continuing contribution to policy making based on the scientific evidence.
