Unesco Convention On The Protection Of The Underwater Cultural Heritage

That this House is aware that the General Conference of UNESCO at its 31st session from 15th October to 3rd November will be considering for adoption a convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage; observes that in his introduction to the Convention, the Director-General recalls Recommendation 1486 (2000) of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe which inter alia wished to associate the Council of Europe with the elaboration by UNESCO of an international convention on the protection of the underwater cultural heritage; notes the extremely positive response of the Committee of Ministers to Recommendation 1486 (2000) of PACE; and thus urges Her Majesty's Government to give its full support to the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage when it is proposed for adoption at the 31st session.
