National Missile Defence
EDM number 201 in 2001-02, proposed by Alan Simpson on 19/07/2001.
That this House notes the recent MORI poll, which shows that a clear majority of the British public believe that America's controversial plan to build a missile defence system will encourage other countries to build more advanced nuclear weapons, start a new arms race, and make nuclear disarmament harder to achieve, to the extent that the United Kingdom may become a military target; urges Her Majesty's Government to seriously take note of the scale of opposition which has been expressed both by the British public outside and by honourable Members of this House; and calls on the Government to convey a clear message to the US Administration that their plan is too high a price to pay in the name of the special relationship with the United States.
This motion has been signed by a total of 39 MPs.
