Turner Prize Shortlist
EDM number 1863 in 2001-02, proposed by Nick Harvey on 07/11/2002.
That this House notes the criticism made by the Culture Minister on the Turner Prize shortlist; understands that contemporary art divides public opinion; invites a wider discussion and debate about the merits of British historical and contemporary art; commends the 1995 decision by the Tate to engage with the wider public by collaborating with other galleries by showing videos about the work of each of the short-listed artists; believes that different interpretations of art are valid; and encourages steps towards taking the Turner Prize shortlist on a tour around the regions to reach a wider audience.
