Rnib Cymru Report On Blindness

EDM number 1859 in 2001-02, proposed by Martin Caton on 06/11/2002.

That this House congratulates RNIB Cymru on the publication of its report, 'Changing the way we think about blindness - myth and reality'; notes that the report reveals most people are more frightened of losing their sight than any other disability but completely underestimate the prevalence of sight loss and have unrealistic expectations of the services that would be available should they lose their sight; recognises that most people with sight loss are not getting the help they need and many live in isolation, exclusion and poverty; and supports the RNIB Cymru call for more investment in prevention, detection and rehabilitation, full implementation of good practice guidelines for social care throughout the United Kingdom, better integration of services provided by hospital eye clinics, local authorities, GPs and other community health services with quicker assessment and care planning.

This motion has been signed by a total of 8 MPs.
