Northern Ireland Fishing Industry
EDM number 1853 in 2001-02, proposed by Iris Robinson on 05/11/2002.
That this House notes the despair with which recent plans to close cod fishing grounds used by Northern Ireland fishermen have been received, where the whole industry is now at risk; calls on the Government to make clear how it intends to respond to the Commission's proposals; and believes that this vital industry will only flourish again when national control of United Kingdom waters is restored and when fishermen and local communities have a genuine role in managing fish stocks.
