Confidence In The Examination System
EDM number 1829 in 2001-02, proposed by Damian Green on 29/10/2002.
That this House believes that, in the light of the A level crisis and the recent concerns raised by the Guardian newspaper about the credibility of testing at key stage two, there is an urgent need for the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority to be given real independence from ministerial control, on the model of the Bank of England; and calls on the Government to introduce legislation at the earliest opportunity, as a first step towards restoring confidence in the public examination system.
