20 Day Rule And Compensation

EDM number 1789 in 2001-02, proposed by Paul Flynn on 22/10/2002.

That this House notes that the average British family pays ú10 every week to subsidise farmers plus an additional ú150 in 2001 for compensation for the foot and mouth epidemic; regrets the reported breaches of the 20 day rule on animal movements; and believes that it would be unreasonable to expect the taxpayers and the tourism industry to pay the bill for future epidemics, the costs of which would be greatly exacerbated by the refusal of farmers to observe the 20 day rule or to insure their animals.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
