That this House welcomes the Government's commitment of ú660 million over the next three years towards the protection and modernisation of the nation's urban and rural post offices; congratulates Ministers for responding so positively to the lessons learnt from recent nationwide pilot schemes, together with the reasoning put forward by trades unions and Consignia management in support of the continuance of a comprehensive United Kingdom post office network; urges Her Majesty's Government to continue this spirit of co-operation with local communities, by insisting of Consignia that they consult with relevant local authorities if any post office closures are proposed in their area, before any such closures take place.
