Detention Of Asylum Seekers

EDM number 1697 in 2001-02, proposed by Neil Gerrard on 23/07/2002.

That this House recognises the commitments which have been made by the Government that prisons would no longer be used for the detention of asylum seekers; is concerned that since the fire at the Yarl's Wood Detention Centre some asylum seekers have been returned to prisons, causing them to lose touch with friends and lawyers, and in some cases causing them to suffer from abuse from other prisoners and calls on the Government to bring to an end the detention of asylum seekers in prisons.

This motion has been signed by a total of 21 MPs.
