A Permanent Olympic Site
EDM number 169 in 2001-02, proposed by Tony Banks on 17/07/2001.
That this House extends its congratulations both to Beijing for being selected as host city for the 2008 Olympics and to Jacques Rogge on his election as President of the International Olympic Committee; hopes that Her Majesty's Government and the British Olympic Association will encourage the widest possible consultation process before deciding if London should bid for the 2012 Games; notes the limited number of world cities now able to host the Games together with the often unsavoury aspects of selection; and believes that ultimately a permanent Olympic site should be established, most probably in Greece.
