Fire Service National Pay Formula
EDM number 1671 in 2001-02, proposed by HELEN CLARK on 22/07/2002.
That this House believes that a Fire Service demands a highly skilled and motivated workforce, and that these principles should be reflected in a more appropriate and relevant Fire Service National Pay Formula; notes that the significant decline in the manufacturing sector has made the formula less effective in delivering a reasonable living wage to those who render a vital emergency public service, whilst at the same time the jobs of firefighters and emergency fire control staff have become increasingly complex and skilled; calls for firefighters working the retained and volunteer duty systems, who can be expected to do the same job as their whole-time counterparts, to be trained to the same standard and receive the same pay and conditions; and calls on the Government to review urgently the Fire Service National Pay Formula.
