Manchester Commonwealth Games And Rugby League

EDM number 1656 in 2001-02, proposed by Andy Burnham on 17/07/2002.

That this House looks forward with great anticipation to the XVIIth Commonwealth Games in Manchester; believes it will be a tremendous celebration of the North West and its strong sporting heritage; expresses disappointment that while Rugby Union is included in the games, Rugby League, a sport holding a proud place in that heritage and played across the Commonwealth, will not feature; and while sending it every good wish for a successful games, asks the Commonwealth Games Federation to consider including Rugby League in the schedule of events for Melbourne 2006.

This motion has been signed by a total of 60 MPs.
