Co-Operative Bank And Corporate Social Responsibility

EDM number 1634 in 2001-02, proposed by Adrian Bailey on 16/07/2002.

That this house congratulates The Co-operative Bank on becoming the first United Kingdom company to be chosen as the world's most socially responsible business; notes that the bank beat more than 200 companies to take the overall Judges' Award for Corporate Social Responsibility at the annual New York-based, global Corporate Conscience Awards; further notes that Mervyn Pedelty, the bank's Chief Executive stated at a Business in the Community gala dinner in July that mandatory reporting on corporate social responsibility is one of the best ways to restore public confidence in the behaviour of big business; and calls upon the Government to consider introducing legislation requiring large companies to report on their social and environmental performance.

This motion has been signed by a total of 94 MPs.
