National Cab Act

EDM number 1625 in 2001-02, proposed by HELEN CLARK on 15/07/2002.

That this House calls attention to GNER's decision to award sole rights to operate at their stations to one company, Taxibank, and the resulting chaos at Peterborough Railway Station, with passengers facing long waits and the use of private hire vehicles; notes that this contravenes licence and insurance regulations, as the company does not have sufficient hackney cabs to serve the station; and calls on the Government to introduce a new Cab Act that could safeguard free and open access for transport termini, standardise driver and vehicle standards; tackle the problems of illegal private hire vehicle touting, control the numbers of private hire vehicles and to make provision for a central register of taxi and private hire vehicle providers.

This motion has been signed by a total of 19 MPs.
