Institute Of Advanced Motorists
EDM number 1609 in 2001-02, proposed by Bob Russell on 10/07/2002.
That this House congratulates the Institute of Advanced Motorists, the United Kingdom's leading advanced driving organisation, on the official opening on 10th July of its new national head office, its third address in Chiswick High Road but the first that it has owned; thanks the IAM President for the past 30 years, HRH the Duke of Gloucester, for performing the ceremony; notes that since the Institute's formation in 1956 more than 300,000 motorists have passed the IAM Advanced Driving Test; thanks also past and present IAM employees for the major contribution which they have made to raise the standard of driving during the last 46 years; congratulates the 200 local IAM groups across the UK which help aspiring motorists and motorcyclists to prepare for the advanced test; notes that full IAM members, of whom there are currently 110,000, have been shown to be statistically considerably less likely to be involved in road crashes; and therefore urges the Government to encourage more drivers to take advanced driving lessons such as those provided by the Institute of Advanced Motorists so that the number of crashes, injuries and deaths on the roads can be reduced.
