Shipbuilding On The Clyde
EDM number 160 in 2001-02, proposed by John Robertson on 17/07/2001.
That this House, while welcoming the orders placed for the Type 45 frigates, is dismayed at the BAe Systems announcement that they intend to make 1,000 people redundant in the Govan and Scotstoun yards; notes that orders will ensure a decade of work on the Clyde but that it is imperative that the Government and the company do all they can in the short-term to protect the current workforce and their families; calls upon the company to reconsider their position on redundancies; and asks the Government to intervene on behalf of the work-force who have always delivered and adapted during turbulent times in their industry.
