Shades For A Day

EDM number 1599 in 2001-02, proposed by Colin Breed on 10/07/2002.

That this House recognises the valuable work carried out by The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association; acknowledges that there are 200,000 visually impaired people in the United Kingdom, that each guide dog costs ú35,000 to train and keep throughout its life and that currently the Guide Dogs Association receives no government funding for this service; supports the Shades for a Day campaign on Tuesday 16th July which aims at promoting eye health care and raising important funds for their work by encouraging everyone to wear sunglasses at work or at school to look cool, learn about eyecare and to donate ú1 to Guide Dogs; and recognises the importance of regular eye checks and wearing sunglasses which have been CE marked and protect the eyes from potentially harmful UV rays.

This motion has been signed by a total of 43 MPs.
