Status Of Animals In The 21st Century

EDM number 1578 in 2001-02, proposed by Mike Hancock on 08/07/2002.

That this House believes that all animals should be treated as sentient beings and is concerned that unacceptable practices where animals are treated as objects still continue today; further believes that all animals, at whatever stage of evolution, deserve protection and recognition; welcomes New Zealand's decision to introduce a Bill to grant apes certain basic rights; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to improve the welfare and status of all animals in the United Kingdom.

This motion has been signed by a total of 26 MPs.
