Burnley

EDM number 1494 in 2001-02, proposed by Peter L Pike on 24/06/2002.

That this House recognises that the people of Burnley in the year since the disturbances of 24th and 25th June 2001 have worked to pull their communities together and that the issues highlighted in the Taskforce Report of November 2001 have been addressed and continue to be tackled by Burnley Borough Council, Lancashire County Council, the police and others; supports the Building Bridges Project launched between the Christian and Muslim Communities at St. Andrews Church on Sunday 23rd June aimed at pulling all the people of any faith and no faith together to make Burnley a place to be proud to live in; and urges the Treasury in the comprehensive spending review to provide funding for the key problems of empty housing, poverty and deprivation to be tackled in Burnley and other places with identical problems.

This motion has been signed by a total of 20 MPs.
