Immigration Into Scotland

EDM number 1493 in 2001-02, proposed by Alex Salmond on 24/06/2002.

That this House notes that between 1994 and 2000 125,000 people immigrated to Scotland and that in years prior Scotland was similarly a chosen destination for people from all over the world; acknowledges the contributions these immigrants have made to Scotland; further acknowledges that many recent immigrants as well as new Scots who have been in Scotland for much longer have family members who live outwith Scotland and the UK; and while acknowledging the difficult task of the Home Office to process applications for those seeking visa entry into the United Kingdom, notes the frustration felt by many citizens at the difficulty and delay associated with securing the necessary visas to visit with family members.
