Insuring Of Homes At Risk Of Flooding
EDM number 1486 in 2001-02, proposed by Parmjit Dhanda on 20/06/2002.
That this House notes with concern that 10 per cent. of households in the United Kingdom face a significant risk of flooding; recognises the severe difficulties facing families who are unable to insure their homes; condemns the Internet insurance firm, E-sure, for refusing to offer household cover to people living in areas prone to flooding; and applauds the rest of the UK insurance industry for standing by the agreement that was made with the Government in the winter of 2000 to continue to provide flood cover to homes and small businesses.
