Peas Processing In East Anglia

EDM number 1431 in 2001-02, proposed by Norman Lamb on 12/06/2002.

That this House notes the closure of the Albert Fisher pea food processing factory in Kings Lynn; further notes that as well as the sad loss of hundreds of jobs, some 120 growers of peas in East Anglia face the loss of their crop unless alternative processors can be found; and calls on the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to intervene and hold urgent talks with the receivers, the National Farmers' Union and trade unions with a view to saving the plant, its jobs and the livelihoods of pea growers across East Anglia.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs.
