Jailing Victims Of Torture
EDM number 143 in 2001-02, proposed by Nick Palmer on 12/07/2001.
That this House notes the report of the Medical Foundation for Victims of Torture that refugees showing clear evidence of torture, including electric shock, burning and sexual abuse, are being held in prisons; further notes that the practice has been criticised by the British Medical Association and the Chief Inspector of Prisons; and considers that in such cases humanitarian considerations should be paramount and jails should not be used.
