Transport In East Sussex
EDM number 1417 in 2001-02, proposed by Nigel Waterson on 11/06/2002.
That this House warmly welcomes the decision by the train operating company South Central to reduce markedly season ticket fares on the lines from Lewes to Eastbourne and Seaford; notes the Eastbourne to Lewes price has now been cut from ú23.20 to ú15 a week and the Seaford to Lewes price from ú15 to ú10; believes this provides a real alternative for many travellers in the area; further believes that the wider applications and potential of this scheme should be considered both by the Department of Transport and the South-Coast Multi-Modal Study; also warmly welcomes the imminent official opening of the Polegate Bypass and the A22 new route into Eastbourne which has been consistently supported and lobbied for by the honourable Member for Eastbourne over many years; but, despite these welcome developments, trusts that the Multi-Modal Study will also conclude that major improvements to the A27 between Lewes and Polegate are long overdue on safety and environmental as well as economic grounds and that such improvements would benefit the whole area and in particular people and businesses in Eastbourne, by creating and integrated transport system.
