Cost Of Living For Teachers In London And The South East
EDM number 1416 in 2001-02, proposed by Chris Grayling on 11/06/2002.
That this House recognises the very real problem that headteachers and the teaching profession face as a result of the high cost of living in London and the South East; recognises the validity of the argument behind the current campaign by teaching unions for improved London weighting, whilst not in any way condoning strike action by teachers; notes that the problem is equally acute in counties outside London; and calls on the Government to structure future teachers' pay settlements to achieve a more realistic reflection of the substantial differences in regional living costs.
